October 2022:
Sandstorm Films unveils plans for new on-site accommodation
Sandstorm Films is delighted to announce that it plans to build brand-new, luxury accommodation on its Badbury site in 2023. A total of 20 luxurious new rooms will now be built, meaning film crew, production staff, and clients will no longer need to travel back and forth for a shoot or hire.
Based on the edge of the Cotswolds, Sandstorm Films offers state-of-the-art film production facilities just an hour outside of London and only 40 minutes from Bristol. Offering multiple studios to hire, full kit, crew, and post-production, the site has constantly evolved since its doors opened at The Old Dairy in Badbury 14 years ago. That includes the launch of its largest film studio in 2019, alongside the exclusive Director members’ club.
Cost-effective accommodation on site
The latest development comes as the result of a prolific challenge that has been exacerbated by the rising cost of travel and living. The need for cost-effective yet comfortable accommodation when filming is an absolute necessity, and one that is often overlooked for the crew and clients working on productions.
Managing Director, Tom Ward, has decided to tackle this challenge head-on by building the studio’s own accommodation on site. He explains:
“Our accommodation plan is such a massive step in the right direction for production efficiency, the wellbeing of our clients, and the local area itself. We’ve looked to refine every aspect of the filmmaking business, and this is the last hurdle standing in our way of a truly smooth process – there really is no alternative. We’ve been planning this since 2019, and it is incredible that we now have the potential for bringing new business, and people, into the local area. It opens up further possibilities for the community whilst setting a new precedent for the way productions can be carried out.”
Premium rooms at Sandstorm Films
The 20 luxury rooms will now be built north of the newest studio as classically Cotswold converted horse stables. Rooms will vary in size to suit guests’ requirements, including the smallest ‘Paddock Lodges’, each with their own shower room and ensuite. Larger rooms will be enhanced with features like roll-top baths, and there will be one pair of linked rooms – ideal for an executive producer or celebrity talent.
Sandstorm’s vision is that productions are no longer limited to tiresomely long days with excessive amounts of back and forth travel home or to mediocre hotels, packaged sandwiches for lunch, and watery coffee. That vision is almost complete with the new accommodation now underway to complement the site’s existing bar, café, restaurant, and therapy floor including a massage room and sauna.
